How To Find Affordable Prom Dresses

Wednesday, September 6th, 2006

If you are looking for affordable prom dresses you may want to conduct your search in the comfort of your own home. You may think that you have plenty of time before the big day but time has a way of slipping by. If you wait until last minute and run to the nearest formal shop you definitely will wind up paying too much.

There are other options to consider and these ideas can save you quite a bit of money for the even. Affordable prom dresses don’t have to look cheap and the good quality gowns are not always in the high-end fashion boutique. You wind up paying more at a bridal shop or formalwear boutique than you do online because you are investing in the store’s overhead.

Online shopping is quite different. You can find affordable prom dresses that are top notch. These gowns are not leftovers from last season, either. Some girls consider buying their gown second hand. While this can be a really intelligent way to find affordable prom dresses it is not likely that you will be able to find the latest styles of this season.

One way to work around this when shopping second hand is to choose a classic gown that doesn’t go out of style. Halter dresses that have clean lines and a sleek, clean hemline are perfect examples of classic gowns that never go out of style. Make sure that you stay away from prints with bold colors and confusing patterns when shopping for these affordable prom dresses.

Most young women don’t like the idea of shopping at consignment shops or secondhand stores. New gowns are the only option for these girls and for good reason. This is a very special day that comes only once in a lifetime. However, you don’t have to spend a fortune on your formal gown. You can find affordable prom dresses if you take a little time to search.

The search begins right in your home. Peruse the Internet and look for designs that appeal to you. There are plenty of sites that showcase gowns online. Once you have an idea of what you want for this special occasion, start shopping. You will be amazed by how many affordable prom dresses are available online.

This process may take quite a bit of time or you may find your dream gown within minutes. It is a good idea to bookmark pages that have affordable prom dresses that interest you so you can revisit the site. However, you will probably know which gown is right for you in a glance.

How To Choose Irish Wedding Dresses

Bridal Gowns: How to Make the Wedding Dress of Your Dreams

Irish wedding dresses come in many different styles and designs. I have seen tea length gowns as well as cathedral length trains that seemed to go on forever. Bust lines and hemlines vary from one bridal gown to another and even the colors are dress-specific when it comes to Irish wedding dresses. One feature that the traditional Irish wedding dresses have in common is the magic handkerchief.

The magic handkerchief is a lovely bridal tradition in the country of Ireland. The bride carries a handkerchief on her special day. Some brides wear their magic hankies in their Irish wedding dresses. Others kept them in their sleeves or under their veils. No matter what, though the item was an integral part of her costume.

This handkerchief was very special to the bride-to-be because it doubled as a baby’s bonnet. This item held the promise of the bride becoming a mother in the future. The innovative design of the magic handkerchief allowed the bride to quickly transform the hanky into a baby’s bonnet with a few stitches.

It is a lovely custom among people who live in Ireland. The Irish wedding dresses have an element that will be worn by the couple’s first born child. It is as if the baby is part of the ceremony before he or she is even conceived. This appealing aspect of Irish wedding dresses is commonly overlooked but it is a crucial part of their appeal.

If the couple’s first born is a baby girl, she is given the bonnet to keep until she marries. She undoes the stitching herself after she has chosen her own Irish wedding dress. The bonnet is once again a handkerchief for the couples special day. The tradition carries on from generation to generation.

Right now bridal themes that involve the beautiful country of Ireland and its rich traditions have become increasingly popular. The practice of trying on a number of Irish wedding gowns for the special day is very enjoyable and the practice of following the traditions of that country shows honor and respect for that heritage.

If you are considering adopting the traditions of Ireland into the day of your marriage it is important that you research the customs of the ceremony ahead of time. Make sure that you take time to include a magic handkerchief in the tradition. Most importantly, have a lot of fun trying on the many styles of Irish wedding dresses available.

How To Dress Appropriately

Thursday, August 17th, 2006

It always amazes me that with all of the events taking place in the world nowadays, the age-old crisis of how to dress still can cause more havoc than a natural disaster.

Ask a teenage girl what she thinks of the recent hurricanes and you’ll get pity and disbelief, but if you ask her what she thinks she should wear on her Friday night date, she is likely to turn it into a dramatic event.

How in the world did society ever allow the drama of how to dress become such a dilemma in our daily lives?

We land a job interview and suddenly are emptying our closets and drawers trying to find that outfit that will guarantee success. We get a wedding invitation and immediately are thinking about what to wear and how to dress for the event. Almost anything people do these days requires them to think about how to dress for a certain event or situation.

What’s really tragic is that the issue of how to dress has managed to sculpt people’s opinions of others. Someone walks down the street wearing an outfit that you think is too short or too long, too bright or too dull, and we’re judging them. We assume they’re too poor or too distasteful and that’s why they don’t know how to dress. Who decides what the dress code is for society? Apparently we all do.

My family has always attended a very conservative church. I grew up knowing how to dress for church – dresses or skirts. Recently, I attended church with my best friend whose church is very contemporary. I had to pick my jaw off of the floor when I saw people walking in wearing shorts and T-shirts. When I asked my friend about this, she told me that God doesn’t care what you wear, as long as you show up. I had never thought about that. And that holds true for everyday life.

Our parents teach us how to dress for various occasions and those invisible guidelines are carried with us into our everyday lives. It really is a strange concept that society places such importance on how to dress when there are so many other issues that should be addressed.

But, we see a photo of a celebrity dressed a certain way and suddenly that ideas of how to dress shift a tiny bit and we gravitate towards their style. Maybe it looks “cooler” than what our own closets are holding. No matter what the reason, it’s obvious that the drama of how to dress will continue to be passed on through the generations.

Let’s just hope that the manufacturers start to add a little bit more material to those tiny skirts…
